This is an optional but highly recommended step. Mop up any residual water with a sponge.
Before turning on the water supply pour a gallon of water into the tank to check for leaks.
How to fix a toilet leak between tank and bowl.
If the toilet is leaking way more when you flush it that is the sign of bowl gasket malfunction.
When removed place the tank on top of the toilet bowl or on any other place that makes it comfortable enough for you to work on it.
It is helpful to use a flashlight for this step.
Leaks around the bolts will show up immediately.
Turn off the water supply at the shutoff valve located beneath the tank near the floor.
Replace tank to bowl gasket another way to fix a leak between the toilet tank and bowl.
Flush the toilet and allow the water to escape from the tank.
Loosen the jamb nut with an adjustable wrench pull out the old ball cock and put in the replacement part.
Finish tightening down the inlet valve coupling nut.
Disconnect your water supply line.
Place a bucket underneath your toilet tank to catch any excess water.
Carefully lift up on the tank from the bowl and remove the old tank to bowl sponge gasket.
For a toilet tank that is leaking you will need a toilet tank repair kit.
This will repair a leak from the bolts that hold the tank to the bowl and the gasket that joins the 2 pieces.
For instance leakage coming from the near center between the tank and bowl means you would probably have to purchase new washers for the bolts or a new sponge gasket for the tank to bowl area.
Locate and remove all old nuts bolts and washers from the toilet tank.
Now flush the toilet and look for leaks around the tank to bowl seal.
